Construction work on the reconstruction of the 75-km Barskoon-Karakol highway has started

Today, June 13, the reconstruction of the Barskoon-Karakol highway began in the Jeti-Oguz district of the Issyk-Kul region.
The event was attended by Minister of Transport and Communications Absatar Syrgabaev, Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in Issyk-Kul Region Bakytbek Jetigenov, representatives of the Asian Development Bank
Oyunchimeg Erdene, Mirdin Eshenaliev, the head of the Jeti-Oguz District State Administration, and local residents.

Minister Syrgabaev noted that this project is an important step towards developing the transport infrastructure of the Issyk-Kul region and focused on the following.
“The project is an important step towards the development of the transport infrastructure of the Issyk-Kul region. Developed in accordance with the II technical category, the current two-lane road will be expanded to four lanes. It also provides for the reconstruction of sidewalks, pedestrian underpasses, bridges, the construction of trays, and street lighting in residential areas.
In addition, the implementation of the project will create safe and comfortable road conditions for the residents of the Issyk-Kul region. It will contribute to the development of tourism and economic growth. Thousands of tourists visit Issyk-Kul every year, including an increasing number of foreign visitors. However, until now, the quality of the roads on the southern shore has not allowed the development of our tourism. The reconstruction of this road will improve the accessibility of resort areas and increase the flow of vacationers. The Chinese company "China Road and Bridge Corporation", which has proven its reliability by building large roads and bridges in Central Asia and many other countries, was chosen as the general contractor, "said Minister Syrgabaev.

ADB representative Oyunchimeg Erdene noted that the project also includes measures to support sustainable development, security and local community involvement.

The project is being implemented with financial support from the Asian Development Bank.
